ling-ger-ree

that's how my mom pronounces it to be funny :) we all know the huge trend in, "ooooh, underwear as outerwear!" and how half of the people that attempted it just looked like a prostitute. the trick is: don't over do it, and it's not always meant for your usual runs around the neighborhood to target.

here are some of my favorite random pictures of the trend, the prettiest i think!
love the fabric choice.

maybe looks like eyes on the chest there?? oh well, still cool.

burlap looking!

american apparel has now overdone the leotard to the extreme, unfortunately...

busy bralette covered with a simple top

i really want these tap pants!
heyyyyy, sexy business
see, even anna della russo does it!

a mullet that doesn't look white trash!

i'm in st louis, on an extended stay now because of hurricane irene causing chaos in the airports where i live :( so now that i have all this free time, how's about finally posting trend and lookbook pictures!

why god, why?

why the excitement??????

armani exchange: i haven't seen it anywhere but on people who look the exact opposite of these ads.

what i see in real life: cheesy guys who smell too strong wearing a (always) black screen printed t shirt with the logo, a girl wearing the same thing, but maybe! in white. why does a brand like this seem to always be somewhat popular?

another brand like this? think back to middle school, when you turned around and then saw....
those rhinestone freakin' t shirts everywhere. oh and don't forget the option of tank top... WHY??????

brands like these will always leave me wondering.

new york international gift fair, summer 2011!

http://www.nyigf.com/

Through the PR company that represents the designer I work for, I heard of a company that needed help at the NYIGF this past week: Bella Il Fiore, a girly cosmetic, body line based out of Tulsa!

Those are my favorite products of theirs: cute, high quality, low priced bath items. The cosmetics are really good quality too! Which is hard to find. My boss at the show even gave us lots for free! It was so fun to work there, walk around and see all the businesses, and all the people.

SPEAKING OF PEOPLE.......

That is who was there. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Words can not describe...... ha!

i'm not even a fan of twitter

but this is hilarious, true, and needs to be checked out! good chance it will be shut down at some point possibly, it just started this month. go go go!

more more miu miu, best of 2011!

miu miu is always the top of the list of "favorite designers" i rattle off on interviews. with a first name so cute like muccia and a last name like prada, you know it has to be good. why i LOVE her? the weird details. countless times a garment will jump out at me in an editorial somewhere, and whadayaknow? there she is again.

SS '11 =
neon (which, i'm not really understanding why, is a trend now when it seems like it just was a year ago?)

shiny gold, green, black leather star like shapes on jackets (though usually i hate stars)
the shoulders on these jackets are very wide, a good play on shoulders without the pads!
applique cut out pieces made the classy lady 80's vibe feel more feminine. the collection also has sick, amazingly detailed shoes!
...all these ladies want you to know they're in charge.

FW '11 =
so lady like. i love the detailed little prints, similiar to what i've seen her do before. the furs and the fits make the pieces more than just for everyday.
oooh, pile on the collars! (part of the trend i see now with detachable collars, that i first saw started by miu miu.) this slouchy coat definitely makes up for in leg what it lacks in close fit.
this dress would look more on the granny in the garden side, without the twisted fur belt piece! how expensive looking. :)

E-bay winning brownie points

I recently came into some extra money, and decided I needed to invest in a staple bag. I was looking for something of quality that can last forever, and of all places I started to look on ebay for a cognac-ish leather large bag. I found it! And won it for under $40! Amazing.
I just got it in the mail today and it's beautiful, made by California Leather Company. The hardware and pockets are perfect, and it even has a removable stiff leather piece at the bottom for if you want a slouchy or stand up bag!
It's kind of ridiculous how excited I am about this. It's the simple things when you don't have much money!

If anyone is interested, the ebay store I got this from is Salearea. They start every bid at 1 cent and have tons of vintage and quality items! Don't get discouraged if it takes some looking.

fancy vocabulary

I've been reading this book, "The Wonderful World of Women's Wear Daily", by Katie Kelly, written all the way back in 1972!
Amazing cover! The book talks all about the beginnings of this huge part of the Fairchild empire. I think partly because it was written soooo long ago, there were a lot of fashion terms used in it I didn't recognize. These will be fun to use and impress with! Here are a few of my favorites.

anachronistic: something or someone that is not in its correct historical or chronological time, especially a thing or person that belongs in an earlier time.

burnoose: 1. a hooded mantle of cloak, as that worn by Arabs. 2. a similiar garment worn by women at various periods in Europe and the United States.

camp: (noun) 1. something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of its being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenous and sentimental. 2. a person who adopts a teasing, theatrical manner, especially for the amusement of others. (verb) 3. also, "camp it up." to speak or behave in a coquettishly playful or extravagantly theatrical manner.

conflation: the process of result of fusing items into one entity; fusion.

demode: (french) no longer in fashion, out of date.

rara avis: (latin) meaning a rare bird; a rare person or thing.

worsted: 1. firmly twisted yarn or thread spun from combed, stapled wool fibers of the same length, for weaving, knitting, etc. 2. wool cloth woven from such yarns, having a hard, smooth surface and no nap.
